How to test a mattress in a showroom: a 15-minute checklist

Lying on a mattress for thirty seconds tells you very little. Spend about fifteen minutes, in your real sleeping positions, and check the few things that matter once you get it home.

SHORT ANSWER

Give each shortlisted mattress about five minutes in your usual sleeping position, test it with your partner, sit on the edge and roll over a few times before you judge it. Try at least three comfort levels side by side, for example ORTHO MAX PLUS (Firm) (MRP from ₹14,100), ORGANICO (Medium) (MRP from ₹33,800) and GRANDIOZ (Plush) (MRP from ₹28,300), then confirm the exact size, thickness and warranty before you order.

The 15-minute routine

Do this for each mattress on your shortlist. Wear comfortable clothes and take your partner if you share a bed.

1. Test three comfort levels, not one

Comfort words are relative. A mattress only feels firm or plush compared with something else, so lie on at least three levels in the same visit. CLOUDE uses four comfort groups (firm, medium, plush and soft) and the ComfortCode™ guide on a 7-point scale; taking your ComfortCode result to the showroom gives you a starting point.

Start in the middle of the range, then try one firmer and one softer option. If you keep returning to one of them, that is usually your answer.

2. Test in your real sleeping position

Most people sit on the edge or lie on their back for a few seconds, then decide. Instead, lie the way you fall asleep. Side sleepers should check that their shoulder and hip sink in enough to feel comfortable; back sleepers should check that the lower back does not feel unsupported or arched.

3. Test together if you share a bed

Both partners should lie on the same mattress at the same time. Movement you feel from your partner in the showroom is a fair preview of home. Pocket-spring models such as MEDIC POSTURE ADVANCE and GRANDIOZ use individually wrapped springs that move more independently than linked spring units. See our guide to choosing a mattress for couples.

4. Check the edge and getting in and out

If you sit on the side of the bed to dress, or sleep close to the edge, test it. Some constructions add a foam encasement around the edge, such as GRANDIOZ and INFINIA, which helps the edge feel firmer to sit on.

5. Confirm exactly what you are ordering

Before paying, confirm the model name, comfort level, size in inches, thickness and warranty in writing. Measure the inside of your bed frame at home first, because Indian bed sizes vary by furniture maker. Every CLOUDE product page lists available sizes, thicknesses and size-wise MRP, so you can check the details before your visit.

Showroom testing helps you choose comfort. It is not a medical assessment; if you have persistent back or joint pain, ask a qualified healthcare professional what to look for.

This guide provides general mattress-selection information and is not medical advice. Product details come from CLOUDE's approved specifications; confirm the exact model, size and warranty with an authorised dealer.

Frequently asked questions

How long should I lie on a mattress before buying?

Spend about five minutes on each shortlisted mattress in your usual sleeping position, plus a few minutes rolling over, sitting on the edge and testing with your partner. A full routine takes around fifteen minutes.

Should I test a mattress with my partner?

Yes. Lie on the mattress together and have one person turn over or sit up while the other stays still. This shows how much movement reaches the other side and whether both of you are comfortable at the same comfort level.

What should I wear to test a mattress?

Wear comfortable clothes you can lie down in and shoes that are easy to slip off. Heavy jackets or stiff jeans change how a mattress feels.

How many mattresses should I try in one visit?

Try at least three comfort levels, for example one firm, one medium and one plush. Comparing them side by side is more reliable than judging one mattress on its own.

Does a mattress feel different at home than in the showroom?

It can feel slightly different on your own bed base and after a few nights as you get used to it. That is why testing in your real sleeping position, on a similar base, gives the most useful preview.

What should I ask the dealer before buying?

Ask for the exact model and comfort level, the size and thickness you are ordering, the warranty terms, delivery details and the return or exchange terms, and get them in writing.

Can I use ComfortCode™ before visiting a showroom?

Yes. ComfortCode™ is CLOUDE's guided comfort selector. Take your result to an authorised dealer as a starting point, then confirm it by lying on the recommended comfort levels.

Where can I test CLOUDE mattresses?

At authorised CLOUDE dealers across India. Use the dealer locator at cloude.co.in/dealers to search by city, locality or PIN code, and call ahead if you want to try a specific model.
