INDEPENDENT SPRING RESPONSE
Pocket spring mattresses: compare independent support systems
A pocket spring mattress uses individually wrapped coils that can respond more independently than an interconnected spring unit. Every model listed here explicitly includes pocket or pocketed springs in its approved construction. The spring system is only one part of the mattress: latex, memory foam, HR foam, quilting and edge construction all influence the finished feel.
Pocket springs may suit couples seeking reduced partner disturbance, shoppers who like a responsive spring base and people comparing hybrids with different comfort materials. Independent movement can help limit how much one coil pulls on the next, but it does not eliminate all movement and does not determine firmness by itself.
What to consider before choosing
Compare the layers above the springs, the published comfort group, edge design, mattress height and the feel when changing position. A soft pocket-spring mattress and a firm pocket-spring mattress can behave very differently. Test the complete mattress rather than judging only the coil system.

Independent coil response can reduce transferred movement, while the upper foam or latex layers determine how much additional motion is absorbed.
For surface feel
Memory foam adds contour, latex adds quicker resilience, and quilted foams change the immediate cushioning above the spring unit.
Against Bonnell springs
Bonnell coils are interconnected and have a more unified response. Pocket springs act more independently, although neither design is automatically best for everyone.
Their independent response can reduce movement transfer compared with interconnected coils, but comfort layers and the complete construction also matter.
Are pocket spring mattresses always soft?
No. The spring specification and layers above it can create comfort ranging from firm to soft.
How are pocket springs different from Bonnell springs?
Pocket springs are individually wrapped; Bonnell springs are linked together. This changes how force and movement travel through the mattress.
