CLOUDE SLEEP KNOWLEDGE

Clear answers before you choose a mattress.

A practical guide to comfort, materials, springs, sizing and selection—written to help you understand the choices before comparing specific CLOUDE mattresses.

HOW TO THINK ABOUT MATTRESSES

There is no universal “best mattress.”

The right choice is the one that matches your preferred feel, sleeping habits, body build, bed size, partner needs and practical requirements. Brand names and technical terms matter less if the finished mattress does not feel right to you. The questions below give you a structured way to compare options.

01

BUYING BASICS

How do I choose the right mattress in India?

Start with six decisions: your preferred comfort feel, usual sleeping position, whether you share the bed, mattress size, construction preference and budget. First compare firm, medium, plush and soft feels. Then look at how each feel is created through foam, latex, spring or hybrid construction.

Do not assume that the most expensive or thickest mattress is automatically the right one. A short in-store trial can be useful, especially when comparing products from the same range. If you are unsure where to begin, CLOUDE ComfortCode™ provides a guided route based on your stated sleep and comfort preferences.

02

SLEEPING POSITION

Which mattress firmness is best for side sleepers?

Many side sleepers prefer a surface that allows some cushioning around the shoulder and hip while still feeling supported through the torso and legs. That often leads people to compare medium, medium-soft or soft mattresses rather than choosing the firmest option by default.

There is no single firmness that suits every side sleeper. Body weight, shoulder width, preferred pillow height and personal tolerance for sink all change how the same mattress feels. Use firmness as a starting point, then assess whether your body feels comfortably supported without excessive pressure or deep sinking.

03

COMFORT FEEL

Firm vs medium firm mattress: which should I choose?

A firm mattress generally gives a flatter, more resistant surface with less initial sink. A medium-firm mattress adds more cushioning while retaining a clearly supportive feel. Neither label guarantees a particular material or construction.

Choose based on feel rather than terminology alone because firmness scales vary between brands and even between product families. If you like a stable, restrained surface, start with firm. If you want a balance between surface cushioning and structural support, medium firm is often a useful comparison point.

04

MATERIALS

Memory foam vs latex vs pocket spring mattress: what is the difference?

Memory foam is known for contouring and pressure-distributing cushioning. Latex tends to feel more resilient and responsive, with airflow influenced by the latex and overall mattress construction. Pocket springs use individually moving coils that respond more independently to pressure and can reduce movement transfer between partners.

These are not mutually exclusive choices. Many modern hybrid mattresses combine pocket springs with memory foam, latex or other foams. When comparing hybrids, look at the complete layer system rather than focusing on one headline material.

05

SHARED BEDS

What mattress is suitable for couples with different comfort preferences?

For couples, three factors become especially important: motion isolation, usable sleeping space and a comfort level both partners can accept. Individually responsive pocket springs and contouring comfort layers can help reduce the amount of movement one person feels when the other changes position.

If comfort preferences are very different, compare dual-comfort or adaptable constructions where available. A larger mattress can also help because each sleeper has more usable space. Before buying, both partners should evaluate the same shortlisted mattress rather than choosing from only one person's preference.

06

SPRING SYSTEMS

Pocket spring vs Bonnell spring mattress: which is better?

Pocket springs are individually enclosed, so each spring can respond more independently. This can improve contouring and reduce the transfer of movement across the bed. Bonnell springs are interconnected and create a more unified, traditional spring response.

Neither system is automatically better for every buyer. Pocket springs are attractive when independent response and partner movement matter. Bonnell systems can be appropriate when a more traditional spring feel, simplicity and project economics are priorities. The comfort layers above the springs also have a major effect on the final feel.

07

MATTRESS PROFILE

How thick should a mattress be?

Thickness should match the mattress construction, sleeper requirements, bed design and intended use. Thicker does not automatically mean better. A well-designed foam mattress may work at a lower profile, while a hybrid containing multiple comfort layers and a spring unit naturally needs more depth.

Also consider the total height of the bed once the mattress sits on the frame or base. An overly high sleep surface may be inconvenient for some users, while very low profiles may not suit certain bed designs. Compare thickness only after understanding what the layers are doing.

08

BED DIMENSIONS

Can I order a custom mattress size?

Custom dimensions are useful for non-standard bed frames, older furniture, daybeds, bespoke interiors and hospitality projects. Measure the internal usable bed space carefully and confirm width, length and required mattress thickness before ordering.

Custom-size availability can depend on product construction, and pricing may differ from the nearest standard size. Use published standard sizes and MRP as a reference, then obtain final confirmation for the exact dimension. For an unusual bed, measure twice before placing the order.

09

HOSPITALITY

How do hotels choose mattresses for guest rooms?

Hotels need a mattress that works for many different guests rather than one individual sleeper. Selection therefore balances broad comfort acceptance, durability, edge support, housekeeping practicality, repeatability across rooms, warranty support and project economics.

Medium to medium-firm feels are common starting points because they can appeal to a broad range of guests, but property positioning matters. A luxury suite, business hotel, resort and staff accommodation project may require different specifications. CLOUDE's Hospitality Collection is intended for project-led evaluation rather than simply copying a retail specification.

10

MATTRESS CARE

How often should a mattress be replaced?

There is no universal replacement age that applies to every mattress. Construction quality, frequency of use, sleeper weight, foundation condition and care all affect how a mattress changes over time.

Consider replacement when there is persistent sagging or physical damage, the support or comfort has materially changed, or the mattress simply no longer suits your current needs. Follow the manufacturer's care guidance, use an appropriate base and rotate the mattress when the product instructions recommend it. Warranty length should not be treated as a guaranteed comfort-life estimate.

A note on pain and medical conditions

A mattress can influence comfort and sleep-surface feel, but it should not be presented as a treatment for back pain, spinal conditions or other medical problems. If pain is persistent, severe or unexplained, seek advice from an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.
